They are an ethical company, they won't make medical claims because they are not medically proven in THIS country, just the same as any alternative therapy that's available, you can't make a calim that hasn't gone through years of research with the products being unavailable (just like the problem they're now having with herbal remedies, that also can't make medical claims). I've had good results and know others have too. GO for it.

Hi, I have never heard of Nikken products until now.

I do know that magnotherapy works in a lot of cases, I distribute for Ecoflow plc,a British company, they do reasonably priced hi spec magnetic products for people and animals, using a patented 'central reverse polarity' system which gives a pulsed magnetic effect that mimics electromagnetic treatments.

We too cannot make any medical claims but what we can say is that we have over a million satisfied customers and give a 90 day money back gaurentee (less 15%) which means you can use the products for 3 months, not bad!
They also do magnets, using the same principles, that conditions fuel prior to combustion, and gives a hotter and more complete combustion hench good savings on central heating bills and fuel for the car.

It is my understanding that Nikken sell all bipolar (quadrapolar) magnets. Bipolar magnets are dangerous to use because they can stimulate cancer and microorganism growth within the body. If a person with cancer sleeps on a bipolar mattress pad they can expect to see accelerated cancer growth.

The worlds leading medical magnetic research authority Dr. William H. Philpott visited the Nikken headquarters and pleaded with management to stop selling dangerous bipolar magnets. He explained to them the importance of polarity, and why it is important to apply only the negative (NORTH) magnetic of proper unipole biomagnets to the body. They promptly had security remove him from the premesis.

I have been currious about the Nikken Line of products for a while now. I am a massage therapist and wonder about using them to help my clints with their problems.
My thought is, yes the magnetic effect may stimulate cancer. But how specific is this? For example if I want to treat a wrist problem and the cancer is breast cancer. Would the magnetic effect at the wrist actually reach and adversely effect the cancer in the chest area? If a person lies on a bed that would ofcourse effect the whole body. So are we discrediting a good and functional thing by beeing too general with the magnetic bed concept.

I recently bought their water filter, which gives really nice water. I tried their magnetic sleep pad for a week and found it to be extremely good for deeper more relaxed sleep so I am thinking of ordering one.. so I would like to first know if the above is fake or true

many thanks in advance

I presume the term 'bipolar' magnets mean two magnets, one with north and one with south pointing at the body. Does anyone know if this is true? Obviously there's some discussion of bipolar or unipolar magnets being more effective/safer.

I read about one piece of research where magnets were hung over people's heads. Men were affected positively if the north pole hung downwards. Women were affected positively if the south pole hung downwards. Wonder if that means I should wear my north facing bracelet the other way round?

Part One of Two
Since the north polarity has a negative charge, taping the north side of a magnet to your skin can sedate the buildup of positive energy in your cells. This calms you. The north side is also generally the stronger healing force. Its tendency is to keep bringing us back into balance. It provides a restful, restorative energy and is associated with taking away pain, swelling, and infections, lowering blood pressure, and inhibiting tumor growth. It is also used in the treatment of sprains, broken bones, arthritis, and toothaches.

Part Two of Two
THE SOUTH SIDE OF A MAGNET makes things grow. For better or worse, it activates, stimulates, and increases = whether blood circulation or cancer. For this reason it is trickier to work with the south side of a magnet. You don't know what you may be activating. The south side will stimulate and amplify energies, disperse fluids, and increase blood flow. Because of its effect on the production of insulin, THE SOUTH SIDE of a magnet SHOULD NOT be placed on someone who is DIABETIC. I generally limit my use of the south side to working with burns, broken bones, sprains, and blood clots, or to create a close circuit in conjunction with the north side.Taken from Energy Medicine by Donna Eden.

I am sorry to say that there is something off about the claims being made. An electrical charge can affect bruises, sprains etc (NOT broken bones though!) As for small magnets well I have my doubts, the effect could just as easily cause damage - remember mobile phones and the cancer risks - well maybe magnets can also pose a risk.

A controlled electrical charge can have an effect - either good or bad - an uncontrolled magnet - no way - of course this is just my opinion based on electrical charge stimulation of tissue damage.

From my 1 year plus involvement with Nikken, I can tell you from first hand experience that the magnetic products do work - and people have had amazing results. And yes, they have helped to facilitate the faster healing of broken bones.

It may be that magnets much stronger than those used by Nikken may possibly have some risk associated with their use - Nikken's magnets do not. I believe that if there was any basis to these claims, then someone, at some time, in the 14 years Nikken has been active in the USA, (if not in the whole 29 years of Nikken's life) would have attempted to sue Nikken - litigation is a national pasttime in the USA. As far as I know - there has never been any such litigation.

Nikken's products - and not just the magnetic ones - also the FIR (Far Infra Red) products - supply energy to the body - thus strengthening the body at the cellular level. When the body is stronger, it is better able to cope with health challenges, etc. The extra energy aslo helps to relax the body and reduce stress - both leading, when used at night, to deeper, more restfull and thus more recuperative sleep - and quality sleep is the basis of good health.

After a previous entry here - the webmaster removed an e-mail address saying that these products are of "dubious origin". I beg to disagree.

Nearly 40 million customers around the world, approx $2bn in sales in 2003, use by thousands of doctors and health care practitioners, and now independent clinical studies - not to exclude thousands of testimonials - would refute a "dubious" label from these products.

So many people with health challenges have greatly benefited - I strongly recommend anyone who is open to look at these products.

Please note, though, that Nikken's products are not medical - and we do not claim to cure or heal.

I came back to this forum as I had responded to another post about these magnets.

I am astounded that someone who seems to be selling them and refers to WE when talking about them as healing aids and then says they are not medical! A biased opinion, obviously either from someone who is part of the company or is pyramid selling. I feel this is an obvious scam - Who are the manufactures and what do they claim - not testimonials but real claims from the manufacturers! Hec I could start selling pebbles and with a little imagination…

Hello KM,
Well, you certainly are sure of your opinions!
Good luck selling pebbles!

Biased - yes - because of what I have seen and experienced.
A scam - hardly - ask world class and olympic athletes who use the products, never mind people with health problems who have benefited.

If you want to find out information - try making a search of the internet. As I said before, Nikken does not make any medical or theraputic claims - the products do not heal or cure - they help the body to do that.

I visited http://www.digital-doc... and have seen NO PUBLISHED research, no evidence and absolutely nothing that even tempts me to consider this as anything but a scam.

No response to pyramid selling question and perhaps more importantly... If the manufacturers and distributors make NO CLAIMS about the so called product then what are they selling? If multi million business then where is he research, what is it they claim to sell? I hold my view it is a scam derived by greed and ignorance which has attached itself to genuine holistic health care.

I just came across this site by accident and just have to add my two-pennyworth!

I have no commercial interest in magnets - although for 3 years I sold Bioflow magnets. Nikken has been in business for years and sells similar products.

In my time with Ecoflow (Bioflow), I sold hundreds of magnets to people with all sorts of complaints. Some had no effect (and those customers got a refund) but a huge number of people and pets were helped. Just one example - a customer who was only in her 30s but had such bad migraines that she had to inject herself twice a week. Once she started to wear a magnetic wristband the migraines started to disappear and within a couple of months she never had another. Her doctor was so impressed that he started recommending them to other customers.

We also had great success with pets, particularly dogs and horses. Sometimes the product was bought for one problem but it helped another!

As for "pyramid selling" - I suggest you do some investigation into what that means. Anyone who thinks that multi-level selling is the same as pyramid selling is totally ignorant of an important form of marketing - used by such companies as Avon, Disney, Coca Cola, Remington and many other bluechips. Please do your homework before you make wild accusations

The "magnetic technology" and "far infrared technology" being sold by Nikken, and others is nothing more than snake-oil. I have been investigating this organization because a friend of mine is wrapped up in the cult like Nikken "family" and I see her relationships with everyone around her, including me, changing for the worse, when we don't buy into the Nikken "wellness" and "get rich easy" scheme. Nikken has been nabbed in the past by the FTC and FDA in the U.S., yet continues to prosper due to poor regulations. I feel very bad for all well-meaning people who are distributors for this company. Nikken products are energy based, which is to say that one of the things they do is to provide more oxygen to the body or area of the body. More oxygen means less toxins. Less toxins means less disease. Cancer & other problems with the body cannot tolerate alot of oxygen. Those that doubt this may want to check out Nobel Prizes awarded in Medicine (2003, 2000, 1999, '94, '91, '74, '63, '62, '58, '44, '36, '32, '30, '22, '20, '10, '06) and Physicis (1994, '91, '89, '87, '79, '77, '75, '62, '57, '54, '52, '44, '43, '25, '24, '23, '22, '02).
Nikken magnets are of a equal triangular pattern protected by international patent. Everything is a scam when you do not beleive in it.

If I sold you tennis shoes under the impression that you could one day play perfesional basketball would it bother you to find your self working at McDonalds the next twenty years, would that not be the real scam every shoe company claims that you will be a great basketball player if you buy their tennis shoes and I don't see you making a big deal about them. (Nike, Puma,) I could go on for days with companies who make wild claims and I'm sure you will sit there defending them, because they have spent millons to win you over. The reason a company like Nikken can and will not make any medical claims is because they manafacture products to help people not to cure them if by chance someone feels better then that is wounderful and to have you or anyone treat that persons relief as false and not genuine is insulting.

Philpott is not the worlds leading researcher in biomagnetics. The late Albert Roy Davis, and Walter C. Rawls are the true pioneers. Mr. Davis discovered in 1936, that magnetism is two separate energies, not one. And yes, the south pole energy is dangerous. This message is for everyone.

This is an interesting thread! I was researching new stuff about magnetic therapy when I found it.

I'm in the UK, where Ecoflow plc's Bioflow alternating flux CRP magnet technology mimics the well-established electromagnetic technology widely used in hospitals - you'll have noticed that an earlier respondent sold them.

They work! For limited but common pain problems the results are clear and repeatable.

I should mention that after I discovered these magnets I was very skeptical, but I was shown the medical evidence for alternating flux therapy and I couldn't believe it - over 300 papers by respected scientists, 90% of which found benefits and only 2% found no effect or suggested problems could occur. The most recent literature and forum threads (by sports injury doctors) tend to discuss the exact ways to get best results, not whether it works.

As a result, I joined Ecoflow as a distributor last year (a retirement hobby) and out of over 200 Bioflow products I've sold, only 4 customers reported no benefits. I call them regularly for referrals, so I know!

Nikken is a huge conglomerate, so the biomagnetic product market is peanuts to them. I can imagine that even a world-class expert in such a minor speciality wouldn't impress them without an appointment and prior paper evidence. They can make magnet stuff without much evidence, just because it sells.

So should you buy Nikken? Well, maybe it depends on the exact product. The medical research points to low-power magnets (say, up to 2000 gauss) being effective mainly for skin lesion healing, such as with leg ulcers.

For arthritis, back pain, etc., the medical trials suggest that a strong field is needed, of several hundred gauss in the point of action - that's at least 20,000 gauss at the magnet surface. A rapidly-changing flux is very desirable, too (swapping the N-S poles 3-25 times a second). So you should look for very high power, probably Neodymium or Samarium Cobalt magnets, and a flux-changing system. This is what research shows, anyway.

You'll have probably guessed that Bioflow can do this - or I wouldn't want to be involved with them - but there are some other systems that try to get round the Bioflow patent. Look out for these, and DO ask for a money-back guarantee. How sure is a company that it's products work well, if it can't stand the odd return from a few customers?

Look up Albert Roy Davis on a good search engine. You can find the Albert Roy Davis Reseach Laboratory website and other sites praising their work. Any product, whether it's an electromagnet or a static magnet, that exposes the body to south pole energy is dangerous. No one has more scientific research to back up their claims than Davis and Rawls. Some folks in the U.S. government (including former Presidents) have been supporters of their work, as well as world renowned scientists.

Many of you touting the benefits of magnets need to familiarize your self with the word "Placebo." Look it up in your dictionary.

also quackwatch does have an article on magnetic therapy

Why would you direct people to Quackwatch.org. After all that is what they are....and hold merely opinions, no scientific, plausable medical reviews to anything! Good reference!

PLACEBO
n. pl. plaˇceˇbos or plaˇceˇboes

1.A substance containing no medication and prescribed or given to reinforce a patient's expectation to get well.
2.An inactive substance or preparation used as a control in an experiment or test to determine the effectiveness of a medicinal drug.
3.Something of no intrinsic remedial value that is used to appease or reassure another

Well lets see.....
I do not see this fitting in 1. as magnets are not a medicine. Neither does it fit in 2. as magnets are active substances. Nor does it fit in 3. as magnets hold intrinsic value as they are active....good referral!!

Practically all the scientific evidence for Nikken, from Japan and thus documented in Japanese may be availabe on the web if we could understand this.

Dan, you are forgetting that a placebo test would be a bracelet or whatever without magnets.

The problem most people have with this is that whilst manufacturers will not state any health benefits they encourage the implications of benefit - why else are they manufactured. Yet there is no conventionally verifiable study saying good things about them.

This is not to say they do not work it is to say we do not know.

Many medical studies inc placebo based ones (where patients have not known) have shown that numerious aids and medical treatments work INCLUDING working where a placebo is used. Which shows up the placebo effect well. NO SUCH TEST HAS BEEN DONE WITH MAGNETS like Nikken type products.

To claim the evidance is not available because it’s simply a translation issue seems very naive to say the least and downright missleading in my view.

I'm proud of all you Nikken distributors and even the skeptics who have all done your research. That's more than most people can say. I just wanted to do a quick summary of my view on all of this:

As far as I know, the FDA told Nikken that they could "go play with their magnets" as long as they didn't hurt anybody or make medical claims. They went to extreme lengths to make sure that no claims were made. In some states and Canada (I am told) they can't even say the word 'magnet' because that is what they have been told by their gov. Ask any decent Nikken distributor and they will tell you that they can't say the word pain when referring to Nikken.

As to the post above, that is why people are involved with Nikken. They care that there are people in the world who hurt so badly every day and they want to help, not hurt.

Think of it like this: the earth is a magnet, we learned that in 7th grade science class. When we sit at our computers, and hold our cellphones, and sit in our concrete and steel buildings, that drains our bodies of the energy that we need, the energy of the earth. Go outside, you'll feel better! The Japanese are very smart, much smarter than the rest of us if I do say, and they want to capture that energy that the earth gives us so that we may have it all the time. When we sleep is when our bodies restore themsevles. The Nikken sleep system is designed to help our body restore itself.

Think of a cast on an arm. What does it do to heal the broken arm? The answer is: Nothing. The cast simply holds the arm in a state so that the body can heal itself. We are wonderful machines, after all.

Some people do, in fact, feel worse after using these products. Think of pain like a staircase. Getting worse is like going up that staircase, stepping on every stair. In order to get better, you have to come down that staircase, and in some cases, it will feel worse for a little while. But the products aren't causing that, it is just the natural process of your body healing itself with the help of the products, designed just like the earth we live on.

If you've ever been to a chiropracter, you know that sometimes they will advise you to drink lots of water after your adjustment. This is because they have just released a lot of toxins into your system and you need to flush them out. Nikken products can do the same thing, so when using them always drink lots of water! (Preferrably Pi water ;)...)

Still skeptical?

It may surprise you to know that I am only 20 years old. I have seen Nikken work miracles in people's lives for 7 years (and no, that's not a medical claim!) In Japan, Nikken is a household name. If you walk into the pharmacy for a headache, the pharmacist will hand you a magnet. They waited years to introduce any of this to the US, and even then they started with California. They know that we're skeptics, but now that the world is turning to alternative methods, Nikken is on target to turn into the next trillion dollar industry. I suggest reading Paul Zne Pilzer's book on that, if you want to know more about why Nikken is such a thriving business.

I'm sorry that this is so long, but I really just hate to see people remain in the dark about things that can help them.

And to address the person who posted the message above mine, I'm proud of you for checking out Nikken. I hope that you will find the relief that you need.

Be well all!

No proof?  responded on the 12 May 2005

If you doubt that magnet therapy is a true therapy, do a search on www.google.com and type "University studies on magnet therapy". You will find several studies that show without question that magnet therapy really does work, but their are hundreds of studies over the last fifty years that can't be found on the web. The Soviets have done a lot of their own research. They call it Magnetobiology. They've used magnetized water in their hospitals for many years, but most of them use both poles of the magnet. "The Magnetic Blueprint of Life", by Albert Roy Davis and Walter C. Rawls, lists over one hundred studies in the back of the book. There are other books on the subject that have many studies in them too.

When reading about experiments that didn't show any significant effect using magnets, see if they mention the polarity (you MUST use the north pole for consistent, long term results), the strength of the magnet (should usually be between about 1000-4500 gauss), and how long and how often the magnet was used. All of the negative results that I've read neglect to mention one or more of these important factors. South pole magnetism increases growth indiscriminately. The research of Davis and Rawls proves it. Many scientists and doctors have reproduced a number of their experiments. South pole energy makes your body more acidic. It will cause infections, bacteria or cancer to grow faster. Those who say it doesn't don't know what they're talking about. It is a scientific fact. Davis and Rawls used the North pole of a 3000 gauss magnet in their research to dramatically reduce of eliminate cancer in hundreds of animals in their lab. They wrote about these and other amazing experiments in "Magnetism and Its Effects on the Living System", their first book. Benefits from bipolar magnets will not last over a long period of time. They will ultimately do more harm than good. , Updated 16/07/2005 04:12:19, Updated 16/07/2005 04:52:25, Updated 16/07/2005 07:55:05

Thanks for bringing some sanity into this discussion! My Mom gave me a pair of Nikken insoles 3 years ago and since then I don't have any daytime tiredness. I stopped yawning all day long. The products may have some unpleasant effects while starting out but will improve with time. My feet felt like they were on fire for at least a week but the increased energy made me endure it. No one told me this could happen and it was in my pre-Internet days so I couldn't research the topic right away. I later bought the sleep system and it took several weeks to eliminate my 36 years of insomnia. I am so happy about it!

The truth about Quackwatch from the California court system:

I have found hundreds of flaws on the biased quackwatch site. The majority of therapies are accepted in most of the world, just not in one of the unhealthiest nations, America. Years of living in Germany showed me that many medical doctors do practice things such as homeopathy, herbal medicine, ozone therapy, etc and are paid by the insurance companies. There are several hospitals I know of that use Nikken products in North America as well as many chiropractors and medical doctors.

Lucille, if you're worried about magnets causing cancer, don't be! There is no way that a magnet can cause cancer. In fact, there have been testimonials of people (and animals!) whose harmful cells have been destroyed or greatly reduced just by drinking Nikken pi-mag water. Remember, bad cells cannot live where there is a high concentration of oxygen!

Her whole household is full of Nikkne's products, including mattress, soles, shower head and bottle to make magnetic water. She now has cancer. She is always healthy and went through yearly physical ihncluding colonoscopy. Her oncology urged her not to use any magnetic products when she's under kemo therapy. I am not discrediting Nikken. But, I seriously hope they can perform in depth scientific reseraches to prove there are no negative effects such as accelerating cancer.

That's purely a coincidence. How many people get cancer these days who are trying several new things at once? Who's to say that they should stop everything and only adhere to Western medicine? The fact is, there is proof that magnets and certain Nikken products can help reduce the malignity of harmful cells. And if it helps, it certainly can't hurt. Remember, the earth, our home, is a magnet. If magnets caused cancer, we'd all be dead.

There are a few sites that explain things very well. These first few are more articles than medical proof.

http://www.energyforlife.ca/WhyPEMF.htm
http://www.therionresearch.com/database.html
THERION RESEARCH
http://www.5pillars.com/magneticresearch.cfm
Nikken 5 PILLARS

The reason that there are so few medical studies is because it is realativly new in our Western culture. The FDA has also found no need to approve products because there is no danger of causing harm. If they decided to do their research, we would have more definitive proof.

The Weintraub study is one that you will see often. For the abstract and full text of the Weintraub study, go to : http://www.archives-pmr.org

This is a good place to start, I'll be posting more!

True medical studies, that I believe you are looking for, as I said are rare. Re-read my reasonings, if you will. The Weintraub study IS a medical study, however, and a double blind. There's your real proof, if only for one product.

Why hasn't anyone recorded their evidence? That is a good question. A better question that I would like to ask is have any of you tried these products? That is where the proof that you need lies.

And finally, are you asking for evidence because you are curious? In pain? Looking for help? Or are you merely trying to provoke those who firmly believe that the knowledge they have can help people?

I was just introduced to Nikken three days ago, so ever since then I have been scouring then internet, books, doctors, and random people for more information. I too, am only 20 years old. At that age at least for me, means finding a career to get into that yields a high income and that I can be proud to be apart of. I also am a very big skeptic and ask as many questions as I can. As I was doing my research I stubled across this forum. It has answered alot of my questions. I have read all 22 pages and want to voice my unbiased opinion about magnetics and Nikken. First of all... magnetics, do they work? So far I have seen sites that show scientific studies that the right amount and the right pole of a magnet is good for the body. The FDA also has not shut down Nikken or any of the other magnetic therapy companies as far as I know; so magnets can't be all that bad. Though their not going to help everybody, thats true for most prescription drugs too.

Second... Nikken, as i've been told is the world's only total wellness company, and according to economist the health/wellness industry is supposed to be the next big thing. I have found many companies (also network marketing) that offer sections of that what Nikken offers, but never all. It is a fact that there is alot of potenial for large amounts of residual income in multi-level marketing, however the ethics involved is another story, which comes down to personel opinion. Two days ago I went to a Nikken preview, which educates you about the company and products they sell. To be honest it sounded alot like every other get rich quick scams i've been to, except for two things; one I feel that the products they offer are genuinely put forth to help people live healthier lives. Second and the most important, I wasn't pressured to buy anything, or sign up for more classes at the end. I'm still doing more research but so far magnetics and Nikken seem to be checking out.

Victor, I'm so glad that you're doing your research! That's more than a lot of people can say. You've recognized one of the important parts of Nikken that the people involved love: that everyone who is a part of Nikken has a goal of world health, and wants to help people reach their healthiest potential. One of the first things I heard when I came into Nikken was that Nikken wants to turn the polar bears white again. What a goal!
Also, what other company, multi-level or no, offers a class open to everyone, that focuses soley on the person themselves, on their mental and emotional health? Being healthy isn't just about being physically fit, the mind and emotions are what rule us. Nikken knows just how important a class Humans Being More is. There are people in the company who have been to the training over 20 times in their career. I am about to go to my 5th class.
If you are skeptical about the wellness industry, read Paul Zane Pilzer's "The Next Trillion." One of my favorites! A good and informative read for everyone interested in this topic.

I find it absolutely amazing that people still choose to believe in the unsubstantiated claims attributed to magnetic therapy. This is an old scam, and is indeed quackery in it's worst form. This company operates as a pyramid scheme luring people with a medical background who should know better. If magnetism worked as well as claimed -every person who underwent an MRI would be cured of cancer. I am a physical therapist and would never reccomend any of these products to my patients. 2,000 dollars for a magnetic mattress pad - give me a break.

Well Jenna and others here,

You are making medical claims the manufacturers don't make, they can't because there is no verified medical proof from the scientific community.

I am not for or against, I simply asked for the proof you mention. Not for half truths and nonsense.

AS for MRI scanners and fridges, what are you on about? We all know magnets can be very powerful, heck there is even a great deal of evidence against all sorts of magnetic fields for causing brain damage.

The truth is, as long as we do not say the word "pain," we are not making a medical claim. In other parts of the world, even states in the US, it is defined differently. For a little while people couldn't even use the word "magnet!" That didn't stop people from feeling better once they used them.

Again I'm going to say: do your research. This is the question that I'm putting out: what is the difference in magnetic fields? For scientific and non-scientific minds alike, my contrast of Nikken to MRI's and common refrigerator magnets is a good one if you take the time to understand.

I also find it interesting that the only debate here is on the magnetic products of Nikken. I assume then that no one has a problem with their nutrition, skincare, water, or far-infrared products...

Some still believe the general use of mercury, lead, and other lethal "products" can relive pain and make us better. Science has proven otherwise in 99.9% of circumstances.

You (Jenna) say that as long as you dont use the word "pain" its OK, well it's not, you and others are misleading many people, most are doing it simply in an effort to make money.

To close this, NO NOT make assumptions, just because no one has said anything here about other dubious products, that I am also sure have no "medical claims" made about them either!

For your part, show me where it has been proven that magnets do NOT work, or more importantly, harm people!

I don't make these things up, the FDA has regulations on what people say and do. This comes straight from the FDA's website:

Magnets
"Magnets marketed with medical claims are considered to be medical devices because they are promoted to treat a medical condition or to affect the structure or function of the body. The law requires that manufacturers of medical devices, including magnets intended for medical use, obtain marketing clearance for their products from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) before they may offer them for sale. This helps protect the public health by ensuring that new medical devices are shown to be either safe and effective or substantially equivalent to other devices already legally marketed in this country.

To date, the FDA has not cleared for marketing any magnets promoted for medical uses. Because these devices do not have marketing clearance, they are in violation of the law, and are subject to regulatory action. Action is taken on a case by case basis depending on the significance of the medical claims being made. Significant claims that are likely to trigger regulatory action include, but are not limited to, treatment of cancer, HIV, AIDS, asthma, arthritis, and rheumatism."

Nikken does not claim that their magnets are medical devices. If there are consultants who say that a Nikken magnet can cure you, or they name specific diseases, then they are wrong, and violating laws. Nikken keeps a close eye on their distributors and will pull a distributorship if they feel that someone is taking advantage of it.

I would still like to know, BB and others, if you have researched any of this yourself. We could have a much more substantial debate if you would not rely on me to supply all the information!

If I said that Nikken magnets "did" anything, I would be making a medical claim. If you can tell me what ails you, I can tell you how they might help!

The only other way that I can avoid the FDA coming down on me is to tell you only what Nikken magnets have done for me. In that case I can tell you that after being on the products I no longer had chronic bronchitis, after being in a terrible horseback riding accident and spending only 2 days immobile surrounded by Nikken products I was able to return to activities; I have recurring chronic mono and am able to get over each case within a week or so.

Without "lengthy explanations" it is difficult for me to explain to you what I know. Tell me where you hurt, what disease you have, what you want to "fix"....and I'll tell you what I can do.

Wow. That's kind of going through the back door. So what you're saying is that if I tell you that I have pain or medical conditions, you can tell me what to do with regard to magnets. How is this not a medical claim? Just because you don't actually say the words, that doesn't mean you are not making the insinuation.

The fact that you are mentioning your physical ailments and then saying magnets have helped you sure sounds like a medical claim. You may not be saying that they will "cure" or "fix" MY problems but by saying they helped yours sounds like a claim. You seem to be walking a fine line and only tip-toeing around the FDA regs.

By you saying, "Tell me where you hurt, what disease you have, what you want to "fix"....and I'll tell you what I can do" sounds suspiciously like a sales pitch.

I have been approached by a Nikken person and all this sounds like snake oil.

As far as what ails me, other than being a little over weight, I really don't have any illnesses (chronic or otherwise)or pains to speak of so I don't really need anything. This Nikken person is quite persistent. I could never sell anything I don't believe in 100% and so far I'm not convinced.

Please don't tell me magnets can help me lose weight. If that were true, we wouldn't have the obesity problems we currently have.

One question....if magnets really help, why does your mono keep coming back?

Anything that I say is strictly abiding by FDA regulations, not tip-toeing. And I would like to say that I am not in the convincing business...my job is to educate people only and let them make their own decisions. Some Nikken distributors are very pushy, and they use only a sales angle. I hate that that makes me a stereotype.

Magnets help people do a lot of things, it doesn't mean that those health problems are inexistent. I think that we can all agree that the world, in general, is sick. Personally, I focus on helping people feel better, but the truth is is that Nikken sells preventative wellness products...things that could one day prevent you from falling apart. (Don't even try to attack that one as making a medical claim!)

I would never tell you that a magnet could help you lose weight, that would be ridiculous. You do that yourself. I have seen people on one of their non-magnetic products lose weight and get in shape, but that's another story.

Bottom line: I'm not a doctor, and I don't claim to be. How does it hurt you to learn what I think about this? Maybe it's all just in my head. If that's the case, then I'm just a crazy person who plays with magnets and has lots of friends who play with them too. Where's the harm?

As for the rest of my story, when I fell off that horse I was in serious pain. After a concussion I was told that I had shifted my ribcage up and over several degrees and like I said, I couldn't move or be touched for two days. The only thing that my parents could do for me was let me lie on my magnetic mattress, with a back brace on while they spun magnetic balls around my body, sending the magnetic waves into my body. Sound like voodoo? That's how I felt, but I didn't care. When I could stand up again, not have to crawl on my hands and knees into the bathroom, I was nothing but grateful that my parents had been so "gullible," or at least that's what I had once called them for falling into Nikken.

I'm also not going to tell you that magnets help my mono. It takes a combination of things to strengthen my immune system enough to combat that virus. If you know anything about it, you know that mono is only supposed to had once. I can't even tell you why I get it recurringly, much less how Nikken helps me recover. All I know is that when I get sick, I'm able to get back on my feet within days, not months. And as I refuse to take any kind of medication, the obvious finger points to the only kind of prevention that I am subscribing to.

Any more questions?

Hi Jenna
I came across this discussion while doing some research on Nikken, which my wife and I are thinking of giving a try. I take my hat off to you for being so persistant with your beliefs and responses to every-one who chooses not to have an open mind regarding alternative therapies/pain relief.

Some people in this world are never going to 'think outside their square', and are happy with the beliefs they hold, while others go through life being open minded and accepting of some alternatives to the mainstream.

I agree that a lot of healing is in the mind..., Updated 10/09/2005 04:38:47

I have also read this thread with interest and would say that, being open minded is not selling something by using very missleading statements and often in the case of magnets downlight lies.

It is the case that most sellers are simply trying to make money from the work of others and using peoples desperate search for their lives to be better.

Sorry..this is going to be a long one….

You said it...maybe it is in your head. The power of suggestion is very powerful.

When a thought is planted into the mind, the mind responsively triggers a lasting product of that thought, often creating a deceitful illusion that cannot distinguish fact from fiction. Most people are not aware that they act almost entirely under suggestion.

I have read so much about magnet therapy and am sharing some of what I've learned here. There is a lot of information out there but most of it seems to be against it. Some of the facts I've found are pure common sense.

I just don't see how magnets can help when there are people who have jobs where they're around magnets constantly but still seem to get the same ailments that are supposedly "fixed" by magnets.

Some people working in physics research work for hours each day with their whole body in the presence of magnetic fields far stronger than those from the bracelets, mattresses and pads and are no more or less healthy than anyone else.

Household devices such as garbage disposals, or electric razors, also produce significant magnetic fields when in use yet people who shave still get headaches and are left with whatever ails them.

As far as knowing anything about mono, it’s a common illness caused by the Epstein-Barr virus and is usually self-limited and passes much the way other common viral illnesses resolve in 7-10 days. If you don’t have the antibody against EBV, the virus can and will recur. You usually get a specific virus once, acquire antibodies against it and then never get it again. If you don’t have the EBV antibody, you will get it over and over. This is very common with EBV. Your doctor should have told you this.

Symptoms of mono gradually lessen over a period of 7-10 days depending on your immune system. It will go away in 7-10 days (again, longer or shorter, depending on your immune system) whether you use magnets or not.

As far as magnets are concerned, I need cold hard facts. Every web site I’ve been to supporting magnetic therapy uses the words “might” or “may” but I need to see the words “can” and “do’. You may say that because of FDA regulations you can’t use those words, but even in reports about trial results, no one uses “can” or “do’.

people wearing magnets. They also can get quite expensive, especially if you buy them from multi-level marketing companies and in forms other than bracelets (blankets and mattress pads, for instance). Be careful and don’t wear out your wallet.”
That speaks VOLUMES.

Jenna, you said, “The only other way that I can avoid the FDA coming down on me is to tell you only what Nikken magnets have done for me,” and then said, “I have recurring chronic mono and am able to get over each case within a week or so.” You then turn right around and contradict yourself by saying, “I'm also not going to tell you that magnets help my mono.” So do they help your mono or not? Either they do or they don’t. Obviously you think they do something for it or you wouldn’t have mentioned it.

Some magnet proponents claim that magnets help to circulate the blood by some interaction with the iron in the blood. However, in its ionised form, iron is NOT magnetic. If it were, MRI’s would instantaneously kill people. The list of ways that manufacturers purport that magnetic fields affect the body is almost endless.

Magnetic therapy has been around in some way, shape or form for a couple of thousand years throughout China and the rest of the world. It as been used and ABANDONED over the years. Can anyone out there name a LEGITIMATE therapy that has actually been picked up and then ABANDONED as many times as magnetic therapy?!? Copper bracelets went through the same cycle of belief, then abandonment 20 years ago.

Most of the things that afflict us get better by themselves. That makes it pretty hard to tell whether certain remedies actually help. Whatever we happen to be taking when we get better usually gets the credit.

The force (magnetic field) from a magnet is measured in gauss strength. Magnets used for pain relief and healing typically measure between 200 to 10,000 gauss. Earth's magnetic field is 0.5 gauss, a refrigerator magnet holding a shopping list about 10 gauss, and a cupboard-door latch magnet about 400.

Neodymium alloy magnets (therapy magnets" are rated at 800 gauss, measured at the surface of the magnet. That’s not much compared to the 30,000-40,000 gauss electromagnets used in modern MRI, but it’s a lot for a small permanent magnet.

As suggested on a website I visited, I took a therapeutic magnet that my mother had when she bought into all this (then abandoned) and stuck it to a metal file cabinet. I put sheets of paper between the magnet and the cabinet until the magnet failed to hold them. It only held about 10 sheets of paper. The field of these magnets would hardly reach through the skin, much less into muscles and joints. Their fields wouldn’t even reach an injury.

Magnets certainly do no harm. But the harm they might cause can be dangerous if it leads people to ignore needed medical treatment. Worse, it tends to reinforce a sort of upside-down view of how the world works, leaving people vulnerable to predatory quacks if they become seriously ill.

According to Andrew Weil, M.D., a prominent supporter of alternative medicine: “All told, the studies showing that magnets help with pain relief are outnumbered by those that find no helpful effects…You should be aware, however, that using magnets is not risk-free, particularly if you have a pacemaker or other implantable medical device such as a defibrillator, insulin pump, or liver infusion pump. [There is] no proof that magnet therapy is safe during pregnancy, and there have been anecdotal reports of dizziness, nausea and prolongation of wound healing and bleeding among

Re: FDA claims - I have been in the holistic field for 20 years. One thing you learn fairly early on is, the world doesn't WANT the FDA interfering in holistic medicine......they are more than not very inaccurate in their conclusions and studies. This goes when they are for or against something, anything. I have no respect for the FDA's conclusions and most in the alternative health field don't as well.

Just something to consider...study the FDA...how they come to conclusions and what you would be willing to accept....then you'll probably scream like the rest of us!

Please share...I goofed up on my entry on this site..sorry.
Part 1 I just bought the Pi Mag purifier along with a friend of mine. I have been in holistic medicine for 20 years and thought the idea of bringing the minerals back in to the water was a good idea. I didn't buy the purifier for the magnets. But in helping my friend put the purifier together this evening realized there are two magnets on the spiket of the dispenser to put 'magnetized water into the water'. I usually do alot of research before buying products like this but I have two wonderful reverse osmosis purifiers from Natures Sunshine and am now renting a house where the adapter doesn't fit on any of the faucets. I tried this Pi Mag water while in a Migun distributor's store and thought this would be a great resolve to my water problem.

Now....I shared this Pi Mag deal (buy 1 get 1 free) with all my health care buddies and one came back with a very interesting thought.

Part 2
She said that she would never recommend or use anything magnetic from Nikken or anyone because....
The magnets in the shoe insoles are strong (Nikken likes to hear that too), they actually "pull" anything metal out of your body. For instance if you have metal fillings in your mouth, metal pins from surgery...anything like that...even metal in your jewelry. It gets pulled through your system, your entire blood system. She said she has had people she has worked with who initially do feel better but then have gone into health crisis because the metal pulling through the body has made them very ill. Which would also coincide with comments I have read this evening on the higher incident of cancer when using Nikken. I am not saying those are right, just that with what I know it does make sense.

Also when you cleanse someone who is ill, one form is to soak their feet in a solution of hot ginger water, or hot water with oils to 'pull' all the toxins out of their body.

Has anyone heard anything regarding this thought on magetic therapy? Any substantiated findings from third parties pro or against Nikken? Please email me asap.

Thanks!
Robin

I have heard magnetic therapy explained like this: it is like going up a staircase. Your pain climbed upward and if you stand at the top, you have to come back down to where you started. People who are determined to work a little harder reap the benefits. That is true of any kind of therapy. You are right about the strength of Nikken magnets and Nikken encourages distributors to warn people who have things such as metal pins or rods if they choose to use them.
You are very right, some people in this forum get very rude and belligerent! As for myself, I know I struggle when the beliefs I am very passionate about are challenged.
I also applaud you, Cath for doing some research, although I must say that some of it seemed to be a bit misguided, which can't be helped! It's not up to me to correct mistakes which could hinder a neutral party's positive spin on Nikken. I hope you find the answer that you are looking for with this company and let other people find the answer for themselves as well...

If there is nothing wrong with your product, then Nikken will not refund you for merely changing your mind!! They are terrific with their warranties when something goes wrong. If you change your mind about wanting product, take it up with the consultant you bought it from! (Sometimes they'll be nice and strike you a deal...)

I don't sell Nikken products, am a very , very skeptical person and don't subscribe to the placebo effect for myself. Some of these products work for some people sometimes and other times they don't. I can honestly say that I and some of my family members have been helped by these magnets many , many times which led me to be less sketical. Even when I was helped I still didn't believe, but time and time again when it works it's time to say "Hey, this stuff does work!" I had plantar fascitis for 3 yrs, started wearing the magnets (took about 6 mos ) and I no longer have foot problems unless I forget the magnetic insoles. My husband and mother have knee problems, the magnetic knee brace helps to eliminate their pain. Once in a great while I get migrane headaches - one evening I got up with excruciating pain, took the insoles out of my shoes , put them on my head and back of neck. In 20 minutes the pain was gone.I've done this 4 or 5 times and it works. Only once did it not. I'm a believer in some products for some people at some times.

I'm a bit concerned about the cancer issue. I just bought several items: kenko king and queen pads plus comforters and pillows. Someone know anything about this topic here.

So you are saying Nikken products are bad of they have two magnets, north and south facing each other, correct?

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to this forum and I was checking out the comments. From what I found just within the last couple of days is that I had a lot of pain due to a cracked bone in my wrist (fissure) and NOTHING would make the pain go away except this cute little golden bracelet I purchased...a Nikken product, I might add. I am impressed not only because the pain has subsided but the little finger, bent due to osteo-arthritis appears to be straightening up. Hey, that's a lot for just a couple of days. I ordered the pads but now SOMEONE scared me. I want to know if there is evidence to substantiate that they could cause cancer. I have a problem with that for sure but why aren't there any law suits. It would be very easy to prove that they caused cancer and many persons would have made a ton of money off the Nikken company within the last 29 years. Anyone have any information on law-suits due to cancer producing products being sold to the public?

Well, the more I come back to read because it's a long thread I find something else. I forgot to mention that the way I found out about Nikken was NOT in the US but in Mexico. It's BIG in Monterrey, Mexico. I was excited about the products so I got me some as soon as I got into the US. I talk from personal experience and I'm not a dist., just someone that is glad to no longer have the excruciating pain in my wrist due to the fissure from falling on a cement walkway and catching myself with my hands. I've had pain for many many many months now and funny, was just checking...the trigger finger is also diminishing apart from my little finger straightening up. I'm in awe here....WOW!!!!

Bruce,

Please email me that information. I just want to clear up the doubt I picked up in this site from someone. I ordered many of the Nikken products and I was beginning to panic...because of the positive and negative poles thing and the magnetic bed pads. By the way, as a healthy alternatives specialist, I'm always looking for ways to help people. I do detox an nutritional advisement plus I am certified in iridology, reflexology and lymphology. I experiment with products a lot and this is the first with magnets. I'm seeing great resuls with myself that nothing else has worked and I'm amazed. I thank God for this little bracelet that I also ordered the Nikken necklace. The only thing I need more information on is the pads about the positive and negative poles. Anyone with information here?

Robin,

If you find out any written research or something on the detoxing with Nikken products, let me know. I DID use my iriscope right before I went to sleep and again in the morning, I can't tell, yet, if the metals are chelated out of the system. I'm using the kenko pad, the bracelet, the insoles and pending to get two wrist support wraps, pillow, comforters etc.
Any research or comments on these...what about the mag palm...the magcreator? Any information will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello KB,

As an unbiased believer and an alternatives specialist, I don't agree with your badgering and bullying of these people here. It's my first time here and I sense so much anger and bitterness. You know, I'm so grateful to the Nikken distributor that I met in Monterrey Mexico because she showed me that the Nikken products worked right there. The demonstration on ME with the pain I had sold me on the products. You must understand that people CAN be sincere and truthful. I would feel bad if you were to badger me because I believe in something very NEW to me because it helped me. You mention multi-level, money this and money that...that's only the side benefit. These are people that personally experienced results and wish to help others, don't be so hard on them. I too will promote them eventhough I will not become a distributor. I can always get them at wholesale from someone. All I can say, let people be and let them do whatever they need to do to help others. They can't help it that the company is not in the US. It's their business, don't knock it....please, be nice.

Diana

Please get me information on products that help shrink brain tumors. I read research on one of those you mention. Supposely there was a man brain tumor and he wore a magnet on his cap and when he went back to check with the doctor, it had shrunk.

Hello Cathy,

Pleasure. I was reading what you wrote and I'm seriously a bit distraut and the stuff you keep writing. Most all is very negative. I'm new here at the forum and I stumbled into it by chance when I was seeking more information on Nikken products. You know, the only reason I was researching was because I'm interested in buying many more items whether they are too expensive or whether it's making a distributor make a little money, I honestly don't care. I care about the benefits and what is has done for me. After being in pain for a long long time and seeing that a Nikken bracelet got rid of that pain, I want more of the same. I have osteo-arthritis, mom has diabetis and I have an aunt in the hospital who had a stroke and half of her body is paralyzed. Don't knock it if you aren't happy with the topic. Let others give their opinions and let the world live however they wish to live. In all honesty, I felt bad each time you spewed out your comments that I had to say, please stop it. I am not a distributor, just a happy person. Hope you understand. I don't mean to be disrespectful, just honest. Bless you and I'll pray for you.

Hello Warrick,

I am so very sorry that you do not understand the basics of healthy alternatives whether they are machines of some sort, herbs, or therapy of any kind including magnetic therapy such as with Nikken. Nonebody, not individuals nor companies that sell healthy alternatives are permitted to state medical claims of any kind, the law prohibits it. If you check out the information on most of the items, they have to say something like "this product has not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration" or "This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease" and so forth. You COULD do some research in this area. It is not a secret that the FDA and the AMA are in bed together. It's so sad because that makes people doubt products and instead get full of synthetic chemicals that instead of curing the body will throw it out of homeostasis making it harder and harder to recuperate from any ailment. That is truly sad. I tell you from my own experiences.

Hi I have just stumbled upon this site. I am a distributor for Ecoflow magnetic products. They have been used since 1993 for people and animals called Bioflow, over 2 million sold all with a money back guarantee. They have helped me and many many others I know, including dogs, cats and horses! In DEC 2004 the British Medical Journal published research based on these and other products. They found that the Bioflow wristband was as efefctive as a painkiller in people suffering from arthritic pain in the hip and knee. In Europe the devices have always been recognised as a class one medical device. And the company is growing world wide. Opening in Australia this month. If you are not sure about magnets but are in pain then find a company that gives a total refund and try one to see if it helps you. I can suggest "magnatech" as one of many examples.
Enjoy life to the full and find alternatives to suffering pain.

I have recieved some nikken treatment and found that I am almost pain free from arthritis and the after effects of an accident four years ago, my ashmatic condition has improved ( I am still adhering to my medical regime)as a practicing therapist I know how important it is to do so and have not been encouraged to do otherwise by a very ethical nikken practitioner.

I also happened on this website. I was quite skeptical when I first learned about magetic products over 1 year ago. I didn't "trust" my friend & spent hours doing research. I found some research (it is there), but not lots. There have been some very good studies with arthritis, fibromyalgia and diabetes. The bottom line is I decided to try the products. Placebo effect or not, I have relief--so,I think it sure is safer than using Vioxx! Also, to the complaints that "the pain comes back when you quit using products", does your pain come back when you stop taking pain meds? Most western medicine does not cure--it treats or keeps under control. I don't think alternative health products are any different in that respect. You need to keep using them to see the results. It is true, if you have an electronic medical device you should not use magents. All in all, western medicine doesn't have all of the answers! Good luck to those of you that are looking for help!

Hi,

I happen to have purchased a Nikken bracelet and the pain in my wrist went away. I fell and there was a fissure in the bone and the pain was excruciating. I was amazed at how fast the pain went away.

Mollie,

I have purchased the entire Nikken regimen from the sleep system to the pads, you name it. I am sold on the products. About the supplementation, the magnets enhance their effectiveness. I am testing these products myself with my supplements and I find that the supplements work faster when using the magnets. Colds that usually lasted a few days to a week went away in just two days. My own son had struggled with a cough for over a week and after putting him to sleep on the mattress, on the pillow with the comforter and I used the palm-mag, he recovered in just two days. He was skeptical at first but felt so bad that he decided to try these. My daughter, same thing. I love my Nikken products.

I would really like to see or hear more about the so called findings of the Bipolar magnets being dangerous for those whom have cancer. I had cancer back in 2002 and I am thinking about using some of the Nikken products for my twisting back and bad knee. I am not sure that I want to use Nikkens products if these products could cause my cancer to return etc... Please send me information on this topic. Thank you

One of their "wellness consultants" confirmed to me that they are just selling the power of suggestion - if you believe it works, it works, even though there is no evidence to support any change. The parlor tricks they use to tout the magnets are pretty funny though, so I'm not sure how they get so many people to plunk down $ for the stuff.

I have strong reservations about any product sold through a pyramid scheme. This relies on high pressure/misleading sales pitches putting pressure on buyers in a one-on-one blitz, rather than open advertising in a free marketplace in the light of day.

It's not illegal though, so I don't see anything wrong with it. If people want to buy the products and believe they are getting some value, more power to them.

If you heard of a wellness consultant confirming that they are just selling the power of suggestion then I would stay away from them. I have been a Wellness Consultant with Nikken for about a year now and I have personally SEEN the remarkable affects of all of the products that Nikken offers. I have read this ENTIRE thread and I would like to say that there are a lot of stubborn people out there. This thread primarily talks about magnets. I will say that I have noticed much change in my overall well-being by using magnets, but I have noticed MORE with useing everything ESPECIALLY the nutrition. Last June I was diagnosed with having gout, and a friend of mine also
