A brief outline of what meditation is and the better known forms. Now where was I rushing off to?

In considering what meditation is it is perhaps worth considering what meditation is not.

Meditation is not about control, achieving states of bliss or euphoria. It is not about escaping from the mind or body.

Meditation is about being still, even in walking meditation!

In sitting meditation many methods are available to get started and once some clarity in sitting is found these methods or tricks can be let go of or put aside, and the practice of meditation can grow to become a wonderful opportunity to find clarity of being, clarity of mind and body.

Further information on the many forms of meditation will be added shortly, including Transcendental Meditation, Zen, Vipassana (insight meditation) and others will be added over the coming weeks and months.

This is a huge book. The format is really the only way that it could portray the images with any sort of clarity. The art work within and around each thangkas (similar to Mandala) is very detailed with fantastic, vibrant colours and images. The pictures are clearly explained in brief and clear text which translates each image. This book has to be seen and is a real inspiration to meditation and reflection.
